ACTIVE MEMBER

Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG) is a health education honorary that promotes discipline by elevating the standards, ideals, competence, and ethics of Health Education. The University of Florida's Alpha Lambda Chapter is an award-winning chapter that has received the Chapter Excellence Award five times in the past 10 years. Furthermore, in Spring 2021, they received the Eta Sigma Gamma Chapter Excellence Award and the Teaching Activity Award. I joined ESG in Spring 2020 and have received multiple opportunities to gain health education experience during my academic studies. These include my participation in the yearly campus event and teaching activity "Sex in the Swamp", the creation of infographics on several topics, and the attainment of a Mental Health First Aid Certification.

SPLASH PALS NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDAÂ (NCF)
ACTIVE MEMBER
Splash Pals NCF provides therapeutic swimming and recreation for children with disabilities, and is focused on bringing pre-professional collegiate students together to engage in social interactions and fun.

I joined this association as a member in September 2019 where I was in charge of coming up with activities that suit each child's needs. I do that by developing PowerPoints that are presented to the rest of the members and implementing ideas for activities we can try and evaluate their efficiency.

The part I love most about this association is creating friendship bonds with the children as well as the volunteer members. It is a great experience that allows you to implement concepts and ideas that were learned in HEB but you also have fun doing it.

SCHOOL HEALTH INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAM (SHIP)
ACTIVE MEMBER
The School Health Interdisciplinary Program (SHIP) is a program that focuses on the health and social factors that impact educational attainment among elementary and middle school-aged children. These include increased attendance rates, decreased school dropouts, and overall educational success. As a member of SHIP, I went to Idylwild Elementary School to develop, implement, and evaluate effective school health curriculum. I taught a cohort of low-income students on relevant health topics, including physical activity, drug use prevention, nutrition, stress management, injury prevention, bullying prevention, and self-esteem. Due to COVID restrictions, we transitioned to an online format and created educational videos for low-income students in the Gainesville community. My time with SHIP has been a very rewarding experience!
